CLEP Test

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course.

WHAT IS THE CLEP TEST, AND WHAT SUBJECTS ARE OFFERED?

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®) offers you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the 33 CLEP examinations. CLEP exams allow people who have acquired comprehensive subject knowledge through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, or cultural pursuits to show that they have acquired college-level material. Please check with your college or university prior to testing for a list of accepted subjects.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE CLEP TEST AT NC?

To register for a CLEP test, go to the official CLEP webpage (http://clep.collegeboard.org) where you will create an account, select your examination, and pay the $87 test fee. CLEP’s My Account is a feature that enables candidates to create and manage their own personal accounts, register and pay for CLEP exams, and purchase study materials all in one place. After you have registered online, you will need to schedule an appointment either in person or by phone at (903) 875-7457. The CLEP test is administered on an appointment basis on the Corsicana location only. Appointment times are Mondays – Friday at 10:00 am. You may not take an examination for credit in any subject for which you have already received a passing grade. Keep in mind that you may not repeat an examination of the same title within six months of the initial testing date.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?

The CLEP test fee is $90.00, paid directly to the testing company, for all students. The $90.00 may be paid by credit/debit (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express), after you have registered at the official website. Upon completion of payment, you should receive a registration ticket which you will need to print or have available on your smartphone when you arrive at the Testing Center. An additional $25.00 administration fee is assessed for all students and is to be paid at the Cashier’s Office the day of the test. The test total is $115.

Effective July 1, 2023, the new CLEP test fee will be $93.00.

HOW LONG DOES THE TEST TAKE TO COMPLETE, AND WHEN DO I RECEIVE MY SCORES?

You are allotted 90 minutes for all CLEP tests. Please keep in mind, the CLEP test must be completed at a single sitting. You will receive your official score report (except for the College Composition exam which is scored every 14 days) before leaving the Testing Center on the test day. It may take several weeks for your institution to receive its official score report and award credit.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME TO TEST?

You will need photo identification, your printed registration ticket, and a receipt for the $25.00 administration fee. Required identification for the CLEP tests include one valid, government-issued ID with your photo and signature. Employee IDs, Social Security cards, and credit/debit cards are not acceptable forms of ID for CLEP examinations. The Navarro College Testing Center will provide pencils and scratch paper. No study aids, outside scratch paper, or other materials will be allowed; however, lockers will be provided for storage of personal items.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE CLEP TEST?

You can go to the official CLEP website for the Information for Candidates bulletin. You may also consider purchasing the CLEP Official Study Guide which contains practice questions for all 33 CLEP exams or a CLEP Exam Guide for a specific subject if you only plan on taking one or two tests.
