Notice Regarding Licensure and Certification Eligibility
Some programs prepare students for careers that require a Texas-issued professional license or certification. Please be aware that eligibility for state-issued licenses and certifications is defined by federal and Texas law and may depend on an individual’s immigration status or lawful presence.
Licensure and certification requirements vary by profession. Applicants should review licensure or certification requirements with the applicable Texas licensing board or an immigration attorney prior to starting a program. Federal reference: 8 U.S.C. § 1621. Additional information regarding this law may be found on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Verification of Lawful Presence. web page.
Admission to a program does not guarantee eligibility for professional licensure or certification.
Notice to Students Regarding Licensing
Texas House Bill (HB) 1508
Effective September 1st 2017, Texas House Bill (HB) 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you a potential or enrolled student that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion.
The Texas Commission on Fire Protection website provides links to information about the licensing process and requirements.
Should you wish to request a review of the impact of criminal history on your potential Fire Supression Certification prior to or during your quest for a degree, you can visit the Texas Commission on Fire Protection website and request a “Criminal History Evaluation.”
This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense.
Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice.
