General Information for Paramedic Program
The Paramedic Program at Navarro College prepares students with the advanced knowledge, clinical experience, and hands-on skills needed to provide emergency medical care in pre-hospital settings. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry Paramedic certification examination. Program Flexibility
Daytime programs begin every fall and spring semester.
Expertise
Navarro College uses instructors who are experts in their field. Instructors are members of the Navarro College family and include full-time and adjunct faculty. All are experienced paramedics either currently employed or retired. Each instructor is interviewed and chosen based on their knowledge, command of subject matter, and instructor certification.
Available Resources
Navarro College provides the instructional resources needed to support student success including new computers, textbooks, curriculum materials, and other instructional equipment.
College Credit
Students who successfully complete the program earn 34 semester credit hours.
Degree
Credits earned in the Paramedic Certificate program apply toward the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Paramedic degree.
Prerequisites
Applicants must meet the following requirements before enrolling in the program:

Hold a current National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Certification

Meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements

Hold a current American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Healthcare certification that remains valid throughout the program

Successfully completed Anatomy & Physiology (BIOL 2401 or BIOL 2404). A glossary defining terms related to Course Sections is accessible on the Catalog Course Description page.
Tuition
Estimated tuition for the Paramedic program is approximately $6,800, based on Out-of-District tuition rates. Tuition may be lower for students who reside within Navarro County (In-District). Malpractice insurance is included.

Current Immunizations
Students must request a Castlebranch enrollment link by emailing the EMS Program Coordinator.
Required immunizations and health records include:

Hepatitis B: Complete series of three or positive titer (see note below)
-
Tuberculosis: Annual blood test or approved skin test
-
Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Two-dose vaccination series or a positive titer.

Varicella (Chickenpox): Two-dose vaccination series or a positive titer
-
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap):- Vaccination must be current within the last five years
-
Must be completed prior to enrollment if vaccine expires during enrollment.

Influenza: Current seasonal influenza vaccination is required for students enrolled in fall or spring classes. Documentation must include the student's name, vaccination date, lot number, injection site, and the signature of person administering the vaccine.

Medical Release Form: Included in the registration packet.
Positive titer documentation must include Immunoglobulin G (IgG) laboratory values and the interpretation key.

Uniform Guidelines
Students are required to wear the official Navarro College EMS uniform throughout the program.
Required uniform items include:

Navy blue polo shirt with EMS logo (available through the Navarro College Bookstore)

Dark blue EMS pants with belt loops

Black belt

Black shoes
-
Navy blue jacket (available through the Navarro College Bookstore)

Stethoscope

Drug Screen / Background Check
Students must create an account with CastleBranch (outside entity) to complete the required criminal background check and immunization compliance tracker.
Drug screening is conducted after classes begin. Failure to comply with background check or drug screening requirements may result in removal from the program.
Social Security Number
A Social Security number is required to participate in EMS clinical courses.
Additional Considerations
Completion of the program does not guarantee certification or state licensure. Additional fees may apply for examinations, certification, fingerprinting, and state licensure. Students should contact the National Registry and the licensing agency in the state where they plan to practice for current certification and licensure requirements.
