General Information for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program at Navarro College prepares students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to provide emergency care in pre-hospital settings. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician examination. This page provides information about the program, including course requirements, tuition, financial aid, immunization requirements, textbooks, uniforms, and additional resources for prospecive students.

Program Flexibility
Day and night classes are offered fall, spring, and summer semesters.
Expertise
Navarro College uses instructors who are experts in their field. Instructors are members of the Navarro College family and include full-time and adjunct faculty. All are experienced firefighters and/or paramedics either currently employed or retired. Each instructor is interviewed and chosen based on their knowledge and command of subject matter.
Available Resources
Navarro College has the ability to provide all necessary resources to help make a class successful. New computers, textbooks, curriculum, and other instructional equipment are available to help ensure the highest quality instruction.
College Credit
All EMT classes are credit classes and students can earn six (6) semester credit hours upon successful completion of the program. Credit hours can give graduates an advantage when searching for employment.
Degree
EMT Certificate hours apply to the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Paramedic Degree.

Tuition
Tuition for the EMT program is approximately $1,400. The tuition is based on Out-of-District rates. If you live In-District (Navarro County) tuition may be less. Malpractice insurance included.

Current Immunizations
The following immunization and health records are required before participating in clinical experiences.

Hepatitis B (Complete series of three) or (Positive Titer**)

Tuberculosis Test - blood test required yearly or inquire about skin test

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (Series of two immunization shots needed or Positive Titer**)

Varicella (Two immunization shots or Positive Titer**)

Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDAP) - immunization must be current within 5 years.

Influenza - Current season immunization for Fall and Spring Classes
(Info required: name, date, lot number, site of injection, signature of person administering the vaccine.)
**Titers to include Immunoglobulin G (IgG) Lab value and interpretation key.
Textbooks
Books are available at the Navarro College Bookstore in Waxahachie.

Uniform Guidelines
Uniforms are required to be worn daily throughout the program. Navarro College EMT uniform:

Drug Screen / Background Check
Students must create an account with CastleBranch (outside entity), which includes your background check and immunization compliance tracker. Drug screening occurs after courses have begun. Non-compliance with either may result in student being dropped.
Social Security Card
A Social Security number is required for EMS clinical course requirements.
Additional Considerations
Successful completion of the program makes graduates eligible to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician examination. Completion of the program does not guarantee certification or state licensure. Additional fees may apply for examinations, licensing, certification, and fingerprinting. Students should contact the National Registry and the state licensing agency where they intend to practice for current requirements.
