Posted on October 20, 2023
Navarro College was proud to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Robson U. Romolow, Vice Speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and Mr. Dominic Maluchmai, Acting General Council for FSM with the Oregon Consular Corps. The distinguished FSM delegates visited the Navarro College campus to provide updates and engage with local Compact of Free Association (COFA) citizens.
Dr. Kevin G. Fegan, District President of Navarro College, presented Vice Speaker Romolow with a Bulldog Pin, Bulldog Coin, and Bulldogs Unite Medallion as a symbol of warm Bulldog pride and hospitality.
During their visit, Vice Speaker Romolow and Acting General Council Maluchmai shared valuable insights into all nine referendums made to the FSM Constitution in July 2023. They also graciously answered questions from local citizens, fostering meaningful dialogue and understanding between the FSM government and the Micronesian community in Texas.
The highlight of the visit was Vice Speaker Romolow's generous donation to the Harold Crouch Micronesian Scholarship at Navarro College, demonstrating his commitment to education and community development. This scholarship plays a pivotal role in supporting Micronesian students in pursuit of their higher education goals. To date, this scholarship has helped over 62 Micronesian students $30,000.
Navarro College greatly values the partnership and strong ties it shares with the Micronesian community, as well as the honorable FSM dignitaries. This visit not only facilitated important discussions but also showcased the collaborative efforts to empower and uplift the Micronesian diaspora within the Navarro College community.
Sina Ruiz, Navarro College Vice President of Student Success said, "We are deeply honored to have hosted Vice Speaker Robson U. Romolow and Acting General Council Dominic Maluchmai at Navarro College. Their visit represents the strength of our relationship with the Federated States of Micronesia and our commitment to fostering educational and cultural ties. The generous scholarship donation is a testament to their dedication to the betterment of our community."
Navarro College looks forward to continuing its work in partnership with the Micronesian community and FSM dignitaries to create opportunities for cultural exchange, education, and community growth.
