Brian Pillans is a native of Corsicana and is now raising his family of three in the town that helped shaped him. Growing up in Corsicana and Navarro County, Navarro College proved an obvious choice for him as an institution that was close to home, affordable, and offered numerous scholarship opportunities. Brian is married to his wife, Danielle, who is an Associate Professor of Speech at Navarro College – Corsicana. In addition to their three children, Ryan, Hunter, and Addison, Brian and Danielle have also taken current Navarro College students under their wings through the College Ministry of Grace Community Church. Through this ministry, Brian and Danielle lead and host numerous bible studies and fellowship opportunities throughout the year.
Brian considers his passion for Navarro College and the College Ministry as a way of paying it forward, in gratitude to the people who were highly influential and positive beacons during his time as a student at Navarro. “I had several professors who challenged and pushed us as students to be the best version of ourselves. Without these professors, I am not sure I would have been as successful in my studies,” Brian recalls. Brian received his A.A.S. degree from Navarro in 2002, before transferring to the UT Tyler School of Nursing. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, he then went on to receive a Master of Liberal Studies degree from Southern Methodist University. Brian recalls that his journey through education was far from an easy path, but a very rewarding one: “I really wanted t ogive up early on my education and change degree plans, but because of my parents and the supportive faculty at Navarro, I continued to pursue nursing.”
Currently, Brian serves as the Director of Perioperative Serves and the Cardiopulmonary unit at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waxahachie. He was nominated for the DFW 100 Nurses Service Awards in 2018. In 2016, Brian and his team won the Bill Aston Quality Improvement Award through Baylor Scott and White Healthcare System for their work in developing and presenting a plan for improving and advancing Baylor’s Circle of Care in the Area of Finance. Brian was also the AORN Poster Presenter and Presentation Panelist in April 2019.
