Honorable Byron Cook is a 1974 honor graduate of Navarro Junior College. He went on to become one of the pioneers in the video game industry, as one of the founders of the video game company, Tradewest, based in Corsicana.
In 2002, Cook was elected to the Texas House of Representatives and served eight terms (2003-2017). While a member of the Texas House of Representatives, he chaired three different committees, including four terms as Chairman of the powerful State Affairs Committee.
Awards and Recognition
Cook was recognized twice by Texas Monthly magazine as one of the 10 best legislators, including his last term where he was referred to as “the conscience of the House”. He has been honored twice with the Tom White Citizen of the Year Award for Navarro County and the City of Corsicana.
About the Distinguished Alumni Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor that Navarro College bestows upon an outstanding alum. The award acknowledges and recognizes the outstanding accomplishments and exemplarily achievements of Navarro College alumni whose personal lives, professional achievements, and community service exemplify the objectives of their alma mater. The award recipients are chosen by the Distinguished Alumni Award Selection Committee consisting of members of the Navarro College Foundation Board of Directors, two Navarro College employees (active or retired) and the Executive Director of the Foundation.
