George Solis graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1959, where he played football and basketball. He played basketball for WHS when they won the 1958 state championship. He received a scholarship to play football at Navarro in 1959 and attended Navarro from 1959 - 1961. He completed his college education at the University of Texas at Arlington. He graduated from UTA in 1964 with a degree in Spanish, English, and French.
George began his teaching and coaching career in Ennis ISD, where he taught for ten years. When he felt the call to ministry and helping others, he returned to Corsicana to pastor the Spanish mission church of First Baptist Corsicana while teaching Spanish and French at Corsicana High School. He returned to Ellis County to preach and teach; and in 1982, was named the pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista of Waxahachie, where he was pastor for 34 years. He returned to teach for Waxahachie ISD and retired in 2007. In 2009, he was nominated and named NFL Teacher of the Year by a former student who played for the Kansas City Chiefs. Waxahachie ISD honored his dedication and service by naming George W. Solis Gymnasium in his honor. Mr. Solis continues to live out his faith and walk in love in Waxahachie, Texas.
