Do you want to help your child get a jump on his/her career? Would you like him/her to save money on college tuition by completing college courses while in high school? Well, take a look into Navarro College Tech Prep.
How can we inspire you?
One focus of Tech Prep is to ensure students take high school classes that will benefit them later in life. By taking such focused and sequenced courses at the high school, your child will be prepared to go directly to Navarro College with credits in escrow.
High School Tech Prep Programs
Prepare students for a high-paying, challenging career
Save money on college tuition
Teach employable skills
Tech Prep is not for one type of student or one type of profession; Tech Prep is open to all high school students. To begin a Tech Prep program as early as possible, students should declare a Tech Prep program and sign-up for Tech Prep classes in the eight grade. However, a student may enroll in a Tech Prep program or courses at any time during their high school years.
Tech Prep was designed to give your child a head start on his/her career and save you money on college tuition. Your student can earn up to a full semester of college credit, at not cost to you, while in high school! Upon graduation, the credits held in escrow can be articulated to Navarro College in one of our 10 technical degrees or 27 technical certificates. Tech Prep students are eligible to compete for regional and state Tech Prep grants and scholarships to further reduce the cost of their advanced studies. Navarro College offers several scholarships, including The Open Doors to Success, Collins, and Caston Scholarships, to students who qualify.
How do I get my child enrolled in Tech Prep?
Getting your child involved in Tech Prep is easy, but it is important that you start as soon as possible. As early as the 8th grade your child can start to look at programs offered through your local high school and deciding what he/she wants to study.
Steps to get ahead!
Step One:
BEFORE 9th grade classes are scheduled the student should discuss career & technical programs they might be interested in with teachers or counselors. With their help, he/she can determine what technical program will likely best suit them for further study in college or a future career.Step Two:
The student should register on-line with Navarro College Tech Prep and take the suggested high school classes. He/She should do their best to excel; a grade of 80 or higher is required for college credit.
Step Three:
Within 18 months of graduation the student should enroll in Navarro College; declare and A.A.S. (or certificate) major; and bring their High School transcript to the Navarro College Tech Prep Director for evaluation BEFORE registering for college classes. Once the high School transcript has been evaluated, he/she will be ready to register for College!
Step Four:
After completing 12 hours at Navarro College with a "C" or better, a letter will be sent to the student awarding their Tech Prep credit.
