Corsicana Police announced that a Seagoville man is now in custody in connection with the Oct. 20 shooting of Navarro College freshman Jeremiah Blair. Blair was seriously wounded and transported to a Dallas-area hospital after the incident.

 

Darrick Bailey has been arrested by Seagoville Police on charges of aggravated robbery. Bailey was arraigned in Seagoville and authorities state he is cooperating in the case.

 

Investigators said they expect additional arrests to be made.

The shooting took place at the West Park Plaza Apartments in the 600 block of S. 42nd St., and resulted in Navarro College administrators activating its WatchDog Alert System and closing the campus that night while police pursued suspects. Originally, it was thought that the suspects may have fled the scene on foot and possibly entered the Navarro College Corsicana campus, which is a few blocks from the suspected crime scene. The college purchased the WatchDog Alert System in fall 2008 and this marked the first time the system was utilized for emergency purposes.

 

When the system is activated, students, faculty, staff, and family members can receive text, e-mail and telephone messages alerting them to the potential threat and giving them directions on what to do. The alerts are sent almost instantaneously once the system has been activated. Those students, faculty and staff still on campus were either escorted by campus police to their residence halls or to their vehicles and seen safely off campus.
