Blackboard is a system being used by a growing number of Navarro College instructors in order to make class materials, such as course syllabi, chapter notes, assignments and even tests available to students online. Other great features in Blackboard include the ability to e-mail classmates, store assignments, participate in discussion boards, keep a personal calendar, and much more!

Students can log on to Blackboard from virtually any computer with Internet capabilities and find all their course materials in just a few short clicks.

Blackboard FAQ
Will all my instructors require I use Blackboard?
It depends on the courses you are taking. Your instructors may or may not choose to use Blackboard for class. If you are enrolled in online or hybrid classes, you will almost definitely use Blackboard. Many instructors teaching lecture-type classes place course information on Blackboard, but this will vary from class to class. Your classroom instructor will let you know if Blackboard will be required for his/her class. Nevertheless, it’s still a good idea to know how to log on to Blackboard even if just for using the calendar or e-mailing fellow classmates.

When can I use Blackboard?
After enrolling in your classes for the coming semester, your courses will not appear on Blackboard until after the system updates itself. The Blackboard system is set to update itself three times per day, and conducts a complete system back-up each night (important note: students will not be able to access Blackboard between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. because of the system backup). Once the next scheduled update is complete, you should be able to see your courses in Blackboard (usually on the same day you have registered); however, access to your course information may not be available until the first official day of class.

Who do I contact if I’m having problems with Blackboard?
Please report all Blackboard problems immediately. If you are having difficulties logging on to Blackboard, experiencing technical issues related to Blackboard, or wanting to know how to use various features associated with this system, you should contact the Blackboard Help Desk: Matt Miller: e-mail matt.miller@navarrocollege.edu or phone 903-875-7422 Pat Southard: e-mail pat.southard@navarrocollege.edu or phone 903-875-7432

IMPORTANT: Please direct issues specifically involving course matters to the instructor.

The Blackboard help desk cannot accept assignments, reset exam attempts, or amend an instructor’s class policies without permission from the instructor.

How do I log on and begin using Blackboard?

  1. Go to the Navarro College Web site at www.navarrocollege.edu) and click on the Blackboard link: Blackboard ...where course info is just a few clicks away!
  2. Enter your USERNAME and PASSWORD in the boxes provided, then click “LOGIN”: IMPORTANT NOTE CONCERNING USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS: Students will use the same USERNAME they use for logging on to WebAdvisor.

The USERNAME will be the student’s “first name” + “dot” + the student’s “last name” (all lower case). For example: John Doe’s username is john.doe; however, if a student has a relatively common first initial and last name, then unique numbers will follow the student’s last name (ex: john.doe123). If a student is unsure of his/her username, he/she needs to contact the Blackboard help desk or instructor as soon as possible. The student’s PASSWORD will be the student’s six-digit date of birth (MMDDYY). For example, a student who was born on February 16, 1987 will use the password 021687.
  3. You should now be looking at your Welcome page!
  4. Click on “Personal Settings” link to change your password or update your personal information. Access other Navarro College services, such as “WebAdvisor” and “Student E-Mail” (separate LOGIN required).

Customize your Blackboard welcome page by clicking on the “Contents and Layout” buttons. Select the course links located in the “My Courses” section to view course information, such as syllabi, chapter notes, assignments, etc. Use the “Tools” area to create your personal calendar, address book, or as a shortcut to view grades and send e-mail.

NOTE: If you are using a public access computer (computer lab, etc.), always remember to log out after each session.
